CHICAGO (AP) - A 23-year prison sentence has been handed a Chicago woman convicted of the 2012 beating death of her boyfriend’s 1-year-old daughter.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1hFlP4G) Keisha Jones was found guilty of murder earlier this year by Judge William Lacy during a bench trial. Lacy imposed the prison sentence Thursday.

According to prosecutors, the boyfriend left the baby in the 28-year-old Jones’ care while he got an unrelated injury addressed at a nearby hospital

Prosecutors say Jones called the boyfriend to tell him the baby was “lying on the ground, not breathing right and making gurgling noises.” She later died at Roseland Hospital.

Prosecutors say the girl suffered bleeding around the brain. She also had injuries to her temple, forehead, cheek, scalp and ears.
