GILFORD, N.H. (AP) - Work has begun on a new headquarters in Gilford for the state’s Marine Patrol.

The Citizen of Laconia (https://bit.ly/1VBS9V8 ) reports that the $7.8 million project is expected to be finished by October 2015. It replaces the 1950 structure that had stood in Glendale. The new building is expected to be more functional and environmentally friendly.

The 32,000-square-foot headquarters will be paid for using money from boat registrations, mooring permits and educational courses. It will include an internal basin that boats can motor into, offices, classrooms and a large maintenance area.
