DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a confrontation that left a man dead just outside the door of a South Florida supermarket.

The shooting occurred Monday night outside a Winn-Dixie store in Dania Beach.

According to a Broward Sheriff’s news release, 71-year-old Jeffrey Collie drove his red pickup truck near the door of the supermarket, got out and confronted a man in his 20s who was leaving the store with a friend. During an argument with the man, Collie fired a shot.

A fire rescue crew took the victim to the hospital where he later died. His name hasn’t been released.

Deputies say they don’t know what caused the argument.

An investigation continues.
