PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Brown University student is getting credit for foiling a robbery at his apartment by locking the thief in a bedroom until police arrived.

Police say 21-year-old Eric Nguyen was at home in his room on Saturday night when he heard the front door to the apartment open. He looked out and saw a man rummaging through a roommate’s bag, taking out a MacBook.

Nguyen told police he shoved the intruder in a bedroom and locked the door, grabbed a knife, and called 911.

The intruder was identified as 20-year-old Hakeem Saygbe. The suspect told police he was looking for his girlfriend, who is a student at Brown. But police checked university records and found there was no student with the name he gave enrolled.
