FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A man was fatally shot by police in Fresno and two others were critically wounded in three unrelated incidents in less than a week.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1OuKt2L ) Monday that police tried to stop a man in his car Monday evening, but he sped away and a chase ensued.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Smith says the man ditched his car and was hiding behind a shed when an officer approached. The man came at the officer with a 2-foot long black pipe. The officer, fearing for his, life shot the man. He later died at a hospital. The officer was not injured.

The name of the man who was killed was not released.

In separate and unrelated incidents Thursday and Saturday, police shot and critically wounded two other people. Their names were not released.
