RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - One of three people accused in the 2013 beating and stabbing death of a woman in her Raleigh apartment has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

Local media outlets report Ronald Lee Anthony Jr. entered his plea in Wake County Superior Court on Tuesday. Anthony was sentenced to life in prison without parole in exchange for prosecutors not seeking the death penalty.

Melissa Huggins-Jones was 30 and recently divorced. On the morning of May 14, 2013, her 8-year-old daughter wandered out of their apartment and approached a nearby construction crew, asking for help. A construction worker followed the girl back into the apartment and found Huggins-Jones dead in her bed, covered in blood.

Another person charged in the case has agreed to testify against the other two defendants.
