DETROIT (AP) - A young man faces trial in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old French street artist during a robbery outside an abandoned Detroit housing project.

Eighteen-year-old Dionte Travis is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Bilal Berreni. The prosecutor’s office says jury selection is scheduled for Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit and testimony is expected to begin on Thursday.

If convicted of the murder charge, Travis faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.

Berreni, of Paris, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the face in July 2013. He had no identification, and it took seven months before police identified him through fingerprints.

Three others were charged in the case, including two young men who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
