WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - The Warwick mayor is pitching his city as an option for the Pawtucket Red Sox if the team’s bid for a stadium in Providence falls through.

Scott Avedisian said Tuesday there are three suitable locations within walking distance of T.F. Green Airport where the PawSox could build a ballpark.

But Avedisian says the team’s owners should only consider Warwick if they decide to leave Pawtucket.

Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien says his city remains the best location for the team.

House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello says he would have to study the proposed locations before forming an opinion.

The team’s owners want to build a stadium in downtown Providence, but the increasing costs of the project make the deal less likely.

PawSox spokeswoman Patti Doyle says the team is reviewing Avedisian’s letter.
