NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - A candlelight vigil has been held for a New Hampshire man after police say he was struck and killed by a drunken driver over the weekend.

24-year-old Joey Mearls was riding his motorcycle home on Sunday evening in Nashua. Police say he was then hit by 27-year-old Romivel Cruz. Police say Cruz had been driving impaired when he collided with Mearls’ motorcycle.

Emergency responders found him lying critically injured in the road with his motorcycle in flames. He later died at St. Joseph Hospital.

Cruz was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.

WMUR-TV reports family and friends gathered on Tuesday to remember Mearls.

A fundraiser has been set up to help the family with funeral costs.
