MOUNT GRETNA, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a man who shot and killed a former girlfriend before shooting himself outside a central Pennsylvania ice cream shop on Labor Day has died.

The Dauphin County coroner’s office told PennLive.com (https://bit.ly/1LXTBwI ) that 47-year-old Patrick Derr was pronounced dead Wednesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Coroner Graham Hetrick and Cornwall police in Lebanon County said Derr had been declared brain-dead earlier.

Police said Derr killed 46-year-old Stacey Pennington of South Lebanon Township outside The Jigger Shop in Mount Gretna minutes before it was scheduled to open for the last day of the season.

Police chief Bruce Harris said Pennington owned the Mount Gretna Emporium and Gift Shop next to the ice cream parlor and had an active protection from abuse order against Derr.
