JEMISON, Ala. (AP) - A man accused of fatally shooting his wife in a doctor’s office has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.

Eric Heath Price entered his plea in the Circuit Court of Chilton County earlier this month.

He is charged with murder and three counts of making terroristic threats.

Investigators said Price shot and killed his wife, 24-year-old Leaj Jarvis Price, after she fled to a doctor’s office near their home on April 13.

After the shooting, Price barricaded himself for hours inside their house. Police said Price shot himself in the head but survived.
