PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) - A 50-year-old Portsmouth man has been arrested and charged in the stabbing death of his girlfriend.

The state attorney general’s office said Raymond Ramsey was arraigned Wednesday night in Rhode Island Hospital on charges of domestic murder and violating a restraining order. He was ordered held without bail. A formal arraignment will be scheduled in Newport district court.

Police say an officer responded to a report of a noise disturbance Tuesday at a Portsmouth apartment and found the 42-year-old woman dead from multiple stab wounds. Her name was not immediately released.

Police say Ramsey was arrested at the scene and taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

WJAR-TV reports Ramsey was arrested three months ago on his third domestic violence charge. It’s unclear whether those incidents involved the woman killed Tuesday.
