PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A state senator from Mitchell who has been selected for induction in the South Dakota Transportation Hall of Honor will be recognized during an upcoming event.

The Department of Transportation says Sen. Mike Vehle will be honored Oct. 8 at the Highlands Conference Center in Mitchell. Vehle will become the 84th South Dakotan to be inducted.

Vehle has served in the South Dakota Legislature for 11 years. The department says Vehle has led efforts to address the state’s long-term transportation funding needs.

The state’s Transportation Hall of Honor dates back to 1972. Its goal is to recognize people who made a lasting impact to South Dakota’s air, highway or rail system.
