SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say an employee at a Syracuse restaurant supply business has been arrested on charges he entered bogus returns for items on the company’s computer and stole cash from the register.
The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (https://bit.ly/22U8HyUJ ) 57-year-old William Shaw has been charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records.
Police say the business found out the Syracuse man had been stealing from Smith Restaurant Supply Co. for years. Investigators say a manager was doing inventory when she realized many of the items listed in the computer as being returned for cash weren’t on the shelves.
Police say he took more than $22,000 from bogus returns and nearly $1,800 in returned tax money for the items.
Investigators say Shaw admitted to the thefts.
It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
