PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - A suspended Paterson police officer accused of leaving the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian has been indicted.

Authorities announced Thursday that a grand jury indicted 30-year-old Jose Urena earlier this week of knowingly leaving the scene of a fatal accident and endangering an injured victim.

The North Haledon man was arrested and suspended shortly after the off-duty crash that killed 23-year-old Jaquill Fields in June. He was initially charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

It’s unclear if Urena has an attorney who could comment on the indictment.
