TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - Employees who usually help salvage car parts are pulling together to rebuild after a fire ravaged a business in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/23Aud8E ) flames broke out Friday at Gene’s Auto Parts in Grand Traverse County after something went wrong as an employee was operating a gas torch. Firefighters were on the scene for about eight hours.

Sales employee Kim Streeter says “everybody’s attitude is good and they’re going to try and do whatever they can do to get it up and running.”

Terry Denman, one of the company’s co-owners, says cleanup was nearly half complete Monday because of employees and even some customers who helped clear debris. Nearly all of the parts inventory in the warehouse at the Traverse City location was destroyed.
