FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - Firefighters have recovered the body of a man who was seen falling through ice into the Chena River in downtown Fairbanks.

Fairbanks police say the body of 26-year-old Roy Michael Anthony Omiak was recovered Monday.

He was identified by photo identification he was carrying.

The body was pulled from the river near First Avenue and Cushman Street. The state medical examiner will perform an autopsy.

Witnesses on Saturday morning told police an incapacitated man was walking beneath the Cushman Street Bridge.

About 10 minutes later, police took calls saying the man had walked onto river ice and broken through.

Firefighters were on the scene within four minutes.

They cut holes into the ice to search for the missing man.
