BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A man who pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a woman a week after he walked away from a Billings pre-release center has been sentenced to 80 years in prison.

District Judge Russell Fagg sentenced 32-year-old John Edward Szydlowski on Tuesday for the March 2015 death of 22-year-old Kayla Kinder.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1qGCiut ) Szydlowski met Kinder on March 21, 2015 and he shot her the next day. She died on March 23 after being taken off of life support.

Prosecutors said Szydlowski also fired a shot at a 14-year-old boy at the same house, but the boy was not injured.

Szydlowski has been in jail since his arrest on the day of the shooting.
