ONONDAGA, N.Y. (AP) - Police have released the name of a 29-year-old man who was killed when his pickup truck crashed on Interstate 81 outside Syracuse last weekend.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says Douglas Ayers died Sunday night when his vehicle hit a guardrail and rolled over several times in I-81’s southbound lanes in the town of Onondaga, just south of Syracuse. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Ayers lived in nearby Tully, where he worked on his family’s dairy farm.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (https://bit.ly/1RQWLH1 ) Ayers was a former Marine who did two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan between 2005 and 2009. One of his fellow Marines, Shane Kuhns of Pennsylvania, told the newspaper that Ayers was an easy-going, level-headed comrade.
