MACON, Ga. (AP) - Bibb County grand jurors have indicted five people in the fatal shooting of a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office clerk last year.

The Macon Telegraph (https://bit.ly/23DfYzZ ) reports that 20-year-old Jadarien Shamar Flowers, 19-year-old Michael Dewayne Hardy Jr., 22-year-old Curtis Dewayne Jackson Jr., a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old boy were indicted Tuesday on charges of malice murder, violation of Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act and two counts of felony murder.

Investigators say 23-year-old Vernard Mays of Macon was fatally shot last October while answering the door at his home. Authorities say the suspects were trying to retrieve guns they had hidden near Mays’ home.

Authorities have said they don’t believe the slaying was related to Mays’ job as a clerk in the warrant division of the Sheriff’s office.
