SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities say a man arrested on suspicion of killing a woman found in a suitcase behind a San Diego hotel was a co-worker of the victim.
District attorney’s spokeswoman Tanya Sierra says 32-year-old Joshua Palmer pleaded not guilty to a murder charge at his arraignment Tuesday. His attorney, Katie Belisle, declined to comment Wednesday.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Shauna Haynes was strangled.
Two residents of the Chadwick Hotel called police about the suitcase on April 6. An arriving officer opened the suitcase’s zipper partway and confirmed that a body was inside.
Sierra says Palmer and Haynes worked together at The Old Spaghetti Factory in the Gaslamp Quarter.
Palmer could face 25 years to life if convicted. He’s held on $2 million bail and is due back in court April 28.
