NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A 23-year-old man has admitted to killing a Newark cab driver during a series of armed robberies in 2012.

NJ.com reports (https://bit.ly/1MtirZC ) that 23-year-old Jeshon Johnson pleaded guilty last week to aggravated manslaughter, robbery and related charges in the shooting death of 49-year-old Rochenel Guerrier.

Johnson says he and 22-year-old Alchane Mayes were picked up by Guerrier on July 7, 2012, and each shot the cab driver during a robbery when they got out of the car. Police responding to reports of a crash involving a taxi and several parked cars found Guerrier fatally shot in his cab.

Johnson will be sentenced on June 13.

Mayes’ trial is scheduled for May 17. Officials say Johnson will testify at the trial as part of a plea deal.
