FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Officials at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are urging drivers to use caution in work zones.
State officials say they launched an effort this week to educate drivers about work zone safety and traffic laws. The initiative coincides with National Work Zone Awareness Week, which runs from April 11-15.
Gov. Matt Bevin says 93 workers have died in the last 50 years while working to improve Kentucky roadways.
The cabinet is hosting events around the state to highlight the safety message in addition to putting out public service announcements asking drivers to be “work zone alert.”
Safety tips include following the posted speed limit, staying focused on the road and watching for changes that could include narrowing lanes or changing traffic patterns.
