EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Five Fort Bliss soldiers have been arrested on burglary charges after they were spotted pulling door handles of parked cars in an El Paso neighborhood after midnight.

The five - two 18-year-old and two 19-year-old privates and a 21-year-old specialist - were jailed and held on $10,000 bond each.

Fort Bliss officials confirmed to the El Paso Times (https://bit.ly/1S11hCK ) they were soldiers at the Army post.

An off-duty Border Patrol officer saw them and El Paso police took them into custody early Thursday.

The five are suspected of burglary of at least two vehicles. Authorities haven’t said what was stolen but say the investigation is continuing and more charges are pending.

Police statistics show that compared to last year, car burglaries in El Paso are up 46 percent this year.
