PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - An 11-year-old from Lincoln who says she wants to help the different types of people who live in Rhode Island is the winner of Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo’s second annual “Governor for a Day” essay contest.

Sophia Miranda was the winner out of more than 400 submissions in the contest, which the governor’s office says is an initiative of Women’s History Month.

She wrote in her essay that a leader can work with others to get things done.

Sophia, a fifth-grader at Lincoln Central Elementary School, will be sworn in as governor for a day on Friday.

Raimondo said it was great to hear the ideas that students wrote in their entries.
