NEW YORK (AP) - A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty in a wrong-way crash that killed an NYPD detective in Westchester County last year.

Prosecutors say Efren Moreano, of Yonkers, pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter and reckless endangerment charges.

Det. Paul Duncan, of Hartsdale, was heading to work when he was struck head on and killed on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh. Prosecutors say Moreano was driving the wrong way while drunk and high on marijuana at the time of the accident.

The 46-year-old detective was assigned to the NYPD’s Internal Affairs. He was just 10 months from retirement.

The Journal News (https://lohud.us/1VyFSUv) says Moreano faces up to 18 years in prison when he is sentenced June 1.
