DENVER (AP) - A woman accused of renting out a Wheat Ridge home she did not own has pleaded guilty to attempted theft and burglary.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/6gx9vz ) 39-year-old Michelle Copeland was arrested in September after police were tipped off to her scam by people who lived near the home. She pleaded guilty last week.

Investigators say neighbors knew the home was being foreclosed and had been empty for quite some time when they called police to report people had moved in. The family that was living in the house found it through a Craigslist ad in the site’s “For Rent” section and paid cash for the first month’s rent and deposit.

The victims told police they had met with Copeland and negotiated lease terms for the home.
