NEW YORK (AP) - Police say two people have died in separate house fires in New York City.

A 64-year-old woman, identified as Patricia Thomas, died when a fire broke out at about 6 p.m. Monday on the second floor and attic of a home on Fenimore Street in Brooklyn.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person in the house was injured and was expected to survive. Several firefighters also suffered minor injuries.

Earlier in the day, a 52-year-old man died in a fire on 113th Road in St. Albans, Queens. He was found unconscious inside the home. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name wasn’t immediately released.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
