LONDON (AP) - Atletico Madrid took team of the week honors in the Associated Press Global Football 10 on Tuesday, after eliminating Champions League holder Barcelona from the tournament before defeating Granada 3-0 in the Spanish league.

Atletico knocked Barcelona out of Europe’s elite club competition with an aggregate score of 3-2, winning the second leg 2-0.

Its commanding win at home to Granada then saw Diego Simeone’s side move level on points with Barcelona atop the standings in Spain.

“Most people were tipping Barcelona to do the Champions League-La Liga double, but someone forgot to tell Atletico Madrid,” Marco Monteverde of News Corp. Australia said. “They not only ended Barca’s Champions League defense but they also drew level with the Catalan giants in what has become a thrilling battle for Spanish domestic glory.”

Atletico’s fierce city rival Real Madrid is runner-up for also recording two wins in a week.

It defeated Wolfsburg 3-0 in the Champions League to reach the semifinals before thrashing Getafe 5-1 at the weekend.

Manchester City is third after defeating Paris Saint-Germain to make the Champions League semifinals for the first time in its history and following it up with a 3-0 win away to Chelsea in the English Premier League.

Bayern Munich takes fourth for joining Atletico, Real and City in the Champions League semifinals by ousting Benfica. It then recorded a 3-0 win at Schalke in the German Bundesliga.

Liverpool enters this week’s poll fifth after edging Borussia Dortmund 4-3 in a gripping encounter to reach the semifinals of the Europa League.

“Juergen Klopp’s men pulled off a thrilling comeback to knock the German tactician’s former side, Borussia Dortmund, out of the Europa League 5-4 on aggregate with a memorable 4-3 win at Anfield,” Jonathan Johnson of beIN Sports USA said.

Valencia, Tottenham, Juventus, PSG and Leicester round out the top 10 teams of the week.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the leading player after scoring four goals in Madrid’s two victories.

His side trailed Wolfsburg 2-0 in its Champions League quarterfinal, but he scored a hat trick in the second leg to ensure progression, before netting once more in the 5-1 win against Getafe.

“Things did not look too good for Real Madrid in the Champions League but they managed to escape,” Francois Colin of De Standaard in Belgium said. “They needed three goals, so Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick.”

Ronaldo edges Sergio Aguero, who also scored a hat trick when City beat Chelsea 3-0.

Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann is third for scoring both goals in his team’s 2-0 win against Barcelona.

Kevin De Bruyne, who scored City’s goal which saw it overcome PSG in the Champions League, enters this week’s poll in fourth.

Harry Kane takes fifth for scoring twice in Tottenham’s 4-0 win against Stoke, a win that trimmed Leicester’s lead atop the Premier League to five points.

Arturo Vidal, Paul Pogba, Robert Lewandowski, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Karim Benzema complete the top 10 players of the week.
