WESTMORELAND, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a plane crash behind a barn in upstate New York has left three people injured.

Oneida County Undersheriff Robert Swenszkowski says witnesses saw the small plane crash in Westmoreland on Monday night shortly after taking off from a small airstrip nearby. He says residents near the crash helped the victims and assisted in dousing flames on one of the victims.

Investigators say the plane’s occupants all suffered burns and other injuries. Authorities didn’t immediately identify the victims, who were taken by ambulance to area hospitals.

The crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
