LEXINGTON, Tenn. (AP) - AutoZone has announced plans to add about 100 new jobs in Lexington over the next two and a half years.

News outlets report that Lexington Mayor David Jowers said at a news conference Monday that the jobs will be added incrementally as the 150,000-square-foot distribution center AutoZone is leasing becomes fully operational.

The new hires will bring the total number of employees to about 500 for AutoZone, which has had a presence in Lexington in a 330,000-square-foot facility for 23 years.

AutoZone Distribution Center Manager Joey Hamm says the distribution center has been making more deliveries, meaning the company needs more space.

Jowers says the city lost a lot of manufacturing jobs when the recession hit, but has been making a “comeback.”
