FIREBAUGH, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a 74-year-old California man died after his car became submerged in a canal.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1NzagWG ) that California Highway Patrol says the man’s car swerved off the road, hit a pole and crashed into the Delta-Mendota Canal near Firebaugh on Monday. CHP officers say the car was fully submerged by the time they arrived.

The man was pronounced dead on scene. His name wasn’t available Monday.
