SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Police say a man has died after being struck by a light-rail train in Northern California.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1NyBT1P ) that Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority spokeswoman Stacey Hendler Ross says the man was walking on the tracks on Monday afternoon when the train hit him. Firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authorities say the man’s body was trapped underneath the train and the 12 passengers were transferred to a bus.

Hendler Ross says the man was not in a crosswalk and officials aren’t sure yet why he was on the tracks.

She says the man hasn’t been identified but seemed to be in his late 20s or early 30s.
