FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have identified a body found off the South Carolina coast as having belonged to a 22-year-old kayaker who went missing earlier this month.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office tells news outlets that the body of Dean Legrand Britt Jr. was found Sunday on the shores of a private community near Botany Bay.

Britt’s empty kayak had been discovered on April 10, a day after he and a fellow kayaker, 21-year-old Logan Brown, left Folly Beach and went missing. Brown was rescued April 10 after being found holding onto his boat about two miles from the beach.

The coroner concluded Britt died of an accidental drowning.

Botany Bay is a wildlife preserve on Edisto Island near the Charleston-Colleton County line.
