BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State officials have revoked the license of a St. Tammany Parish daycare after four toddlers wandered onto a busy street.

The Louisiana Department of Education issued a revocation letter Tuesday to Abita Church Christian Daycare in Abita Springs. A motorist discovered the children April 7 and notified the child care center. The children were returned to the facility and were not harmed.

Authorities say the children were able to leave the center’s playground through an opening in the picket fence enclosing the property. During a facility inspection, the department cited the daycare for failing to report the incident, not supervising the children and not having the playground enclosed by a barrier to prevent children from leaving the premises.

The daycare has 15 days from receipt of the notice to appeal.
