LAS VEGAS (AP) - A jury in Las Vegas found a 50-year-old ex-convict from New Jersey guilty of impersonating a police officer to rape prostitutes.

Mark Picozzi will face life in prison at sentencing May 9 following his Monday conviction on charges including sexual assault, lewdness, impersonating an officer, battery and robbery.

Prosecutors say Picozzi summoned one woman from an escort service to room a Las Vegas Strip resort, and then told her he was a vice officer and raped her.

A second victim came forward after Picozzi’s arrest in January 2014.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1SiwT3G ) that defense attorney Michael Schwarz asked jurors why the women didn’t immediately report the attacks to police.

Picozzi had prior felony convictions including robbery, kidnapping, impersonating an officer and auto theft in New Jersey and Florida.
