PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) - A woman charged with child neglect resulting in death has waived her right to a preliminary hearing.

Media outlets report that 56-year-old Sallie Harvey was scheduled for a hearing before Magistrate Mike Flanigan, but waived her right to a hearing on Monday. Her case will proceed to the Mercer County Grand Jury.

Trooper P.M. Hephner says Harvey was arrested after West Virginia State Police were dispatched to her Flat Top home to investigate two possible drug overdoses. Troopers later determined that Harvey and her 17-year-old son had been using synthetic marijuana, also known as “SPICE.”

The teen was taken to Princeton Community Hospital where he later died. Harvey was first charged with child neglect related to using drugs with her son, but the charge was later upgraded to child neglect resulting in death.
