BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State senators honored six soldiers from Louisiana who died in service over the last year.

The ceremony was part of the Senate’s annual “Military Family Day,” which has memorialized 217 soldiers since 2005. The veterans commemorated Tuesday were members of the Navy, Air Force, Army, Marines and Louisiana National Guard.

Individual condolence resolutions for each soldier were read by Sen. Jonathan Perry, a Republican from Kaplan. Family members for each soldier were invited to attend, and those families present were given a state flag.

Also memorialized Tuesday was one of the founding members of the Blue Star Mothers, an organization for mothers with children in the military, who died in the last year.
