DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina courthouse is reopening a day after it was damaged when a pickup truck smashed into the building, killing the driver.

Darlington County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy James Hudson tells local media outlets the accident happened about 4 a.m. Monday. Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim.

Authorities say smoke and flames from the accident reached the third-floor of the building. The courthouse was closed Monday as a precaution. A term of court had been scheduled.

County administrator Tarrence Arrington says the building is structurally sound and is reopening Tuesday.

Darlington is located about 80 miles northeast of Columbia.
