CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera will read poetry and have a book signing at the University of Illinois on April 28.

The university said Tuesday that Herrera will also meet with faculty and alumni and have lunch with students. He is appearing as a part of the Chancellor’s Inclusive Illinois Lecture Series.

Herrera was named poet laureate for 2015-16 and is the first Latino to receive the country’s highest honor for poets. The Library of Congress recently announced that he will serve a second term.

Herrera has written 30 books. They include poetry and prose.

He grew up in California and his parents were migrant farm workers.
