SAN DIEGO (AP) - San Diego police say they’ve arrested a suspect on suspicion of attempted murder a day after a man was doused with gasoline and set on fire.

Police said in a statement that on Monday they arrested 26-year-old Jose Ricardo Garibay in the attack on Julio Edeza, who remains in critical condition at the University of California, San Diego, Medical Center Burn Unit.

Police say Garibay was picked up early Monday on misdemeanor warrants when he and his pickup truck matched descriptions given by witnesses after the attack on Sunday. Further investigation led to his arrest late in the day on suspicion of the gasoline attack.

It’s not clear whether he’s hired an attorney, and police have not said whether there is any connection between the two men or what may have motivated the attack.
