PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - Portsmouth City Council has unanimously voted to authorize a purchase-and-sales agreement to spend $4.9 million on a property that will become the city’s second downtown parking garage.

The Portsmouth Herald reports (https://bit.ly/22JQCxW ) city councilors also voted Monday to allow City Manager John Bohenko to execute a post-closing obligations agreement with Deer Street Associates to buy the parcel.

The 600-space garage will be located on Deer Street in Portsmouth’s North End, which is located just on the edge of the city’s downtown area.

Councilor Brad Lown says he thinks city council was “10 years late” on the second garage, which residents have wanted for years.

Deputy City Manager David Allen expects the garage to open approximately 26 to 28 months after the city signs the sale documents with Deer Street Associates.
