CORNELIA, Ga. (AP) - Law officers in the northeast Georgia mountains say they’ve apprehended a suspect who was the focus of an intense search that began with a shooting.

Earlier Tuesday morning, Habersham County officers had gone door-to-door, notifying residents that there had been a shooting. They said they were hunting for a suspect still in the area who they called “armed and dangerous.”

Habersham County sheriff’s officials said law officers were using a helicopter and police dogs in the search, and that some roads were being closed.

Few other details on the shooting or the suspect were immediately available.

Habersham County is about 80 miles northeast of Atlanta.
