Actress Susan Sarandon recently criticized Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton as “the best Republican” running for president.

Hillary Clinton is the best Republican that’s out there,” the 69-year-old actress said in a Vulture interview published Monday. “She’s completely a Republican. Everything that she stands for and doesn’t stand for is Republican.”

Ms. Sarandon has served as a powerful surrogate for Democratic rival Bernard Sanders and has stood firm in her longstanding opposition to Mrs. Clinton. Appearing on ABC’s “The View” Tuesday morning, Ms. Sarandon suggested that Mrs. Clinton’s success is partly due to her marriage to former President Bill Clinton.

“The idea of a woman president I know will happen, and I hope someday it can be the daughter of someone who’s not rich, who’s not married to someone who was a president,” she said. “That can happen in this country.”

Ms. Sarandon also described Mr. Sanders as “the only person that’s not connected to the machine,” adding “that’s why I’m so excited because there’s never been a candidate, nor will there ever be a candidate in my lifetime who hasn’t taken money from Wall Street, from super PACs, from Monsanto, from fracking, and I want someone with that moral commitment to people.”
