STONEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A truck driver has died after his rig sideswiped a school activity bus in Rockhingham County.

Multiple media outlets reported the collision happened about 3:30 p.m. Monday near Stoneville.

North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Knox said 54-year-old Charles Edward Hill of Eden died when the truck went on and hit a tree.

The bus was carrying members of the Western Rockingham Middle School track team to a meet in Eden.

Schools spokeswoman Karen Hyler said none of the students went to a hospital.

Knox said Hill’s truck crossed the center line and grazed the bus. The trooper said the tractor trailer left no brake or skid marks. Officials are trying to determine if Hill suffered a medical emergency before the crash.
