CANTON, Miss. (AP) - Workers at the Peco Foods plant in Canton are being tested this week for tuberculosis after a former employee tested positive for the disease.

Mississippi health officials tell WAPT-TV (https://bit.ly/1qD3nhy ) the employee stopped working at the plant in October and recently went to the doctor in another state.

Employees at the chicken plant are being tested over the next three days as a precaution. Tuberculosis is a person-to-person, airborne disease that can be highly infectious.

The chickens would not be affected.

Health workers tested Peco employees for tuberculosis about a year ago, when another former employee was diagnosed with the disease.
