HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) - With the boating season about to begin, the New York State Federation of Lake Associations is hosting a daylong workshop for watercraft inspection stewards.

A growing number of inspection stations have been set up at launch sites across the state to stop the spread of aquatic invasive species. The workshop on Friday, April 29 will help inspection program leaders standardize their efforts. Participants will receive a steward training handbook and field guide.

The workshop is coordinated by New York Sea Grant, the Department of Environmental Conservation and other groups. It will be held at the White Eagle Banquet and Conference Center in Hamilton.

Wednesday is the deadline to register with the New York State Federation of Lake Associations online (www.nysfola.org).
