YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - The Yuma Police Department is seeking a federal grant to pay for body cameras for its patrol officers.

The Yuma Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1qUNpQu ) that the city is applying for a U.S. Justice Department grant to buy the cameras and pay for related costs.

Yuma Police Chief John Lekan told city officials last week he’s about a year behind where he’d like to be in obtaining them for at least the 56 patrol officers who regularly interact with the public.

The grant money, if secured, can be used to pay for cameras, software, training and storage of video files.
