PLAINFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Authorities outside Chicago say a 9-year-old girl has been killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident.

The Plainfield Police Department says they responded about 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The girl was taken by airplane to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. She later died.

Authorities say their preliminary investigation shows the ATV was traveling on an asphalt path when it went into a culvert and crashed. First responders found a girl and a man both severely injured. The man was taken to an Aurora hospital.

The girl wasn’t immediately identified. Plainfield a southwestern Chicago suburb.
