NEW YORK (AP) - A play written and starring Anna Deavere Smith, an adaptation of a Sarah Waters novel, a new play drawn from interviews with transgender women and a new production of Tennessee Williams’ “The Night of the Iguana” are among the highlights of the American Repertory Theater’s upcoming season.

The powerhouse theater company at Harvard University said Wednesday it will produce Smith’s “Notes from The Field: Doing Time in Education,” a stage adaptation of the Victorian crime thriller “Fingersmith” and “Trans Scripts, Part I: The Women” directed by Jo Bonney and written by Paul Lucas.

The season also includes Abbey Theatre’s production of Sean O’Casey’s “The Plough and the Stars” and “Arrabal,” a dance theater piece about Argentina’s Disappeared and those they left behind
